Formal Claims 1 to 5: Claim 1: We claim the discovery of a previously unknown form of Gallium Nitride having a previously unknown crystalline structure and exhibiting strong conductivity anisotropy, wherein the crystalline structure has the following characteristics: the lattice constant of the crystalline structure is 0.62 nm; the distance between a Gallium atom and the closest Nitride atom along x axis is 0.3 nm; the distance between a Gallium atom and the closest Nitride atom along z axis is 0.37 nm; the distance between a Gallium atom and the closest Nitride atom along y axis is 0.5 nm; wherein the crystalline structure is stable at temperatures lower than 162K; and wherein the conductivity of the GaN along the x axis is about 5000 times the conductivity along the y axis. Claim 2: We claim the discovery of a series of five sharp optical absorption bands in the Gallium Nitride described at claim 1, the five absorption bands having the following properties: the first absorption band is centred at 1220nm and has a bandwidth of 0.5nm; the second absorption band is centred at 1245nm and has a bandwidth of 0.4nm; the third absorption band is centred at 1307nm and has a bandwidth of 0.8nm; the fourth absorption band is centred at 1398nm and has a bandwidth of 0.3nm; the fifth absorption band is centred at 1431nm and has a bandwidth of 0.5nm. see all claims B.
